So, now that we understand how important and necessary it is to become educated before we make the big mistakes that rob us of money and time with money making businesses at home, how does one weed out the teachers that can be trusted from the money grubbing false ones just looking to suck up our money?
I have a little test to answer that question. And if you really think about it, it probably is the same as you would use, meaning that it's pretty safe to say that you should also use this strategy when you are thinking of selling your product or service, don't ya think?
So, here's my test for determining if someone is reliable or just looking to make some money from me.
1) Do they get personal?
2) Do they give before they ask?
3) Do they have real-life experience?
4) Do they back-up what they claim?
Let's look at each of these...
1) Do they get personal?
I don't know about you, but I don't like to be treated as another number in the crowd. When someone addresses me as such, I tend to resent it and close up to them.
But, when someone remembers my name, or let's me know that they are looking out for me, it makes me feel a certain comradery with that person. If someone treats you personably, you can probably bet that you'll receive special attention from them.
2) Do they give before they ask?
One of the things I always look before purchase educational materials about money making businesses at home is whether or not they give before they ask. This can be in the form of information, samples, testimonials or anything else (I have seen some pretty strange examples).
I don't have a problem if they try to sell me something after that. After all, everyone needs to make a living, don't they?
3) Do they have real-life experience?
You wouldn't take driving lessons from someone who doesn't know how to drive would you? Or, learn to speak Spanish from someone that only speaks Russian.
In the same manner, it doesn't make sense to take lessons about internet marketing from someone who has no experience in money making businesses at home.
But beware!
There are many out there who claim to have the "secrets" to this or that and the other, but really when it comes down to it, they are making money by making bold claims with no support to back it up. And unbelievably, people pay them exorbitant amounts of money for these phonies' theories that claim to work.
But, you're smarter than that, I know.
4) Do they back-up what they claim?
I don't ever buy an educational product if it doesn't come with a guarantee.
To me, a guarantee suggests that the person trusts in their product. It shows me that they are not just trying to swindle me into forking over some money.
Also, buying only in cases where a guarantee is offered allows me to enjoy the product to its fullest, not trying to justify the expense all the while I'm digesting the information.
So, who passes the test?
I'll tell you in my next post.

Education and Money Making Businesses at Home
But, let's make my point about education and money making businesses at home more concrete, shall we?
Say you're bidding on keywords to use with Google Adwords and you just pick any word that you think people might use to find your product. Once you have your word, you set-up your bidding for that word.
Well, after a lot of people click on your add and visit your webpage, you realize that you haven't made any sales.
You wonder "why". What's going on? I'm getting people to my website, why aren't they buying? Then you do a little investigating and lo and behold you come across a gem of a secret that an internet marketing teacher such as Derek Gehl always preaches: "You need to attract TARGETED traffic to your website". A BASIC principle of internet marketing.
Do'h!
A light bulb goes on in your head and you immediately put to use this new found dynamite information.
Everything's good, right? Well, now it's only a matter of making up the hundreds of dollars you lost from attracting non-targeted traffic.
Why did I decide to illustrate my point with this example? Well, because it happened to me. I, like so many other green internet marketers, did not start out attracting targeted traffic and it cost me big money to the tune of several hundred dollars.
Let's do some math...
Lost money marketing the wrong way with Google Adwords = NEGATIVE $350.
Derek Gehl's internet marketing course that, would I have purchased, would have told me how to attract targeted traffic = $197.
As you can see, I wasted about $50 bucks just because I tried to start my money making businesses at home without getting properly educated. Not to mention that Gehl's course contains a lot more useful information other than just how to attract the right kind of traffic. Also, let's not forget the amount of time I wasted, and to me, my time is priceless.
So, as you can see, if you think you are going to save some money by skipping over the basics, be prepared to have it catch up with you in the form of lost money or time.
Obviously, you can't be ready for everything when you start your money making businesses at home and you shouldn't just go on a spending spree. But make educated decisions about which educational materials to invest your precious time in. Without a doubt, if you are planning on succeeding in having your own money making businesses at home, whether internet based or not, you should become aware of the basic principles.

Internet Marketing and Money Making Businesses at Home
As I mentioned in the last post, internet marketing and money making businesses at home go hand in hand. Therefore, much of this blog is going to focus on internet marketing principles that I have tried out and either seen work, or fail miserably.
But, everyone needs a starting place. And before you start your own money making businesses at home you MUST get educated.
Think of it like picking up a map before you head off to a get-together that you aren't sure where is taking place. You wouldn't try to drive off without first making sure you've picked up the right tools you need to arrive at your destination.
I'd like to congratulate you for already starting to gather information about this incredibly over-hyped business. At my blog you're going to learn the truth behind the hype of money making businesses at home. But, I also want to make it very clear that there are many teachers out there that have tons of information on the subject.
Due to time constraints and commitments I will not be able to share every aspect in depth about the subject of money making businesses at home. And even if I could, I would still recommend that you seek out others' opinions because everyone has their blind spots.

Things To Consider Before Starting Money Making Businesses At Home
I'm going to assume that this blog is not your starting place for researching money making businesses at home. I'm also sure that you have seen that almost all money making businesses at home rely heavily on internet marketing. And obviously internet marketing means you will be relying on the internet.
So, why do I raise this point? Well, there are a couple of important factors to take into account before you start you own money making businesses at home.
1) Can you stand working at the computer for long periods of time?
2) Will you be able to feel fulfilled not interacting in person with others?
3) Do you have the right equipment to get started?
1) I won't lie to you. Having your own money making businesses at home means a lot of time at your computer. This is especially true at the beginning when you are trying to get things off the ground. However, the other side of the coin is that since everything is online, you can show up to work in your pajamas at nobody will be the wiser. Another important aspect is that since your business will be online, you can take advantage of some fantastic software that will allow you to automate much of it. But, we'll get into that in a little bit.
2) Because you will be working from home and from your computer, it is not going to be extremely common that you have personal interaction with others. For some, they thrive on these personal interactions. For others, they prefer to not have this interaction. Either way, you need to think seriously if you are one of those that thrives on personal interactions because you will not experience this with you own money making businesses at home.
3) You need to also think about whether or not you have the right equipment. Obviously, you need a computer and an internet connection. I highly recommend that you splurge and get the highest internet connection speed possible because even though the difference may be milliseconds each time you load a webpage, those milliseconds add up fast. Also, I would make sure you set apart a quiet place to work.
In summary, starting your own money making businesses at home can be extremely rewarding, but you need to make sure it's right for you. Before starting, take into account whether you can stand working long hours at the computer and can stand not having personal interaction with others. Lastly, before you start, you should make sure you have a computer and a good high-speed internet connection.
